DGfN 2026 in Leipzig: Molecular Diagnostics Paving the Way for Personalized Nephrology

From October 8 to 11, 2026, the 18th Annual Meeting of the German Society of Nephrology (DGfN) took place in Leipzig, Germany. Under the theme of “Decisions”, leading scientists, researchers and clinical nephrologists discussed the latest developments and future challenges in kidney medicine.
mosaiques diagnostics was represented with numerous scientific contributions, once again highlighting the importance of molecular urine proteomics in advancing modern nephrology.

Germany as a Pioneer in Molecular Diagnostics
German nephrology is playing an internationally leading role in the development and clinical application of innovative molecular diagnostic technologies. In particular, the non-invasive analysis of the urinary proteome using CE-MS (Capillary Electrophoresis coupled to Mass Spectrometry) offers new opportunities to identify disease-specific molecular changes at very early stages – often long before conventional clinical parameters become abnormal.
This approach has the potential to fundamentally transform the early detection and risk stratification of chronic kidney disease (CKD). At the same time, it provides new opportunities for increasingly personalized medicine, enabling therapeutic strategies to be better tailored to an individual's molecular disease profile and specific needs.
Looking Beyond the Kidney: The Cardiorenal System
One of the most promising perspectives lies in the integrated assessment of the kidney and cardiovascular system. These two organ systems are closely interconnected and profoundly influence one another. Molecular biomarkers can help us better understand these interactions and identify individual disease risks with greater precision.
This opens up new possibilities not only for the prevention and treatment of CKD and cardiovascular diseases, but also for personalized management of arterial hypertension.
Integrating molecular diagnostics into clinical decision-making could therefore represent a quantum leap in individualized prevention and treatment across the entire cardiorenal system.
Towards a New Era of Personalized Medicine
The future of nephrology lies in combining early molecular diagnostics, precise risk stratification and personalized therapeutic approaches.
The 18th DGfN Annual Meeting in Leipzig once again demonstrated the scientific and clinical potential of this development. German nephrology is exceptionally well positioned to drive this transformation and establish new standards in precision medicine.
mosaiques diagnostics is committed to advancing this vision together with its scientific and clinical partners – translating molecular insights into earlier detection, better-informed therapeutic decisions and improved long-term patient outcomes.
