Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) in Hospitalized and Ambulatory Patients: A Comparative Study

This multicentre European study included 319 patients from seven countries and compared the prevalence, symptom profiles, and functional impact of Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC, or Long COVID) in hospitalized patients and those treated in ambulatory care.

The findings show that PASC occurs more frequently and with greater severity in patients who required hospitalization. Age-stratified analyses further revealed that older individuals are at increased risk of developing PASC.

These results highlight the heterogeneous nature of Long COVID and reinforce the importance of personalized, multidisciplinary approaches to diagnosis, follow-up, and patient care.

Studies like this are crucial for improving clinical management and deepening our understanding of the long-term consequences of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
